Toners

A Korean toner isn't the stripping astringent you might remember. It's a hydrating step that preps the skin so everything after it works better.

At Skin28 you'll find toners for every skin type — from centella formulas for reactive skin to gentle exfoliating pads for congestion.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Korean toner do?

+

A Korean toner hydrates the skin and rebalances its pH after cleansing. Unlike older Western astringent toners it isn't designed to strip oil, so it leaves skin comfortable rather than tight.

How do you use a toner?

+

Apply it to slightly damp skin straight after cleansing, either with your hands or on a cotton pad. Pat it in and follow with your serum and moisturizer while the skin is still damp.

Which toner suits my skin type?

+

Dry skin does best with hydrating toners containing hyaluronic acid or glycerin. Oily and congested skin benefits from exfoliating toners with BHA, while sensitive skin should look for centella or heartleaf.

How often should you use a toner?

+

Hydrating toners can be used morning and evening. Exfoliating toner pads are stronger, so start with two or three times a week and build up only if your skin stays comfortable.

What's the difference between a toner and an essence?

+

A toner preps and hydrates immediately after cleansing, while an essence is a slightly more concentrated treatment step that follows it. Many routines use both, but a good hydrating toner is the more essential of the two.

In a Korean routine the toner comes straight after cleansing, while skin is still damp. Rather than removing residue, it restores hydration and brings the skin's pH back to where it should be — which is why the next steps absorb better when you don't skip it.

The range covers hydrating toners built on hyaluronic acid or heartleaf, calming centella formulas for redness, and exfoliating toner pads with BHA or PHA for congested skin. Textures run from watery to slightly viscous depending on how much hydration you need.
